Fitocracy

So anyone who knows me knows that I am beyond not fit. With problems with depression and anxiety, I've barely left the house for months, let alone this chair at times. Basically, I feel like a blob that happens to have somewhat working appendages.

I've been wanting to exercise and learn to eat properly, but always put it off. Not to mention several bad events happened back to back and I was eating more food than ever because it was comforting. I was spending all day sitting in my computer chair and spending most of my days playing video games, watching videos, sleeping... trying to do everything to distract me from my feelings and keeping them bottled up. Of course, this would only last for a week or so before I'd go through a break down and spend the whole day just crying. I've been seeing on tv, the internet and other places how exercise can greatly help with anxiety to help get out some of that energy that it produces and help focus your mind on something else. Yesterday, after using a dumbbell in the other room to help break some bagged ice apart for my water mug (side note: Bubba makes really awesome water mugs), my friend suggested that I exercise with it the next day (and if I didn't, he'd come over and make me).

My biggest problem with this is motivation. I have none. Sometimes I don't even have motivation to do anything, even things I love. However, I always thought that if I treated exercise like a video game, it would be more fun. I've tried sites that track different things, but all they give you are numbers and statistics and aren't fun whatsoever.

Today, I found Fitocracy. Fitocracy gives you this really awesome environment where you get points for working out, and those points give you levels. You can also earn badges (achievements) for significant achievements. There are so many exercises available that you can just do what you want. If you don't know what to do, there are quests and challenges that offer more points. There are groups and tons of people to connect with, even fitness coaches and nutritional experts. Heck, even Arnold Schwarzenegger himself is on Fitocracy, and made a great challenge called The Spark Challenge that gives you goals that change each month, and they are made so that anyone can do them!

Plus if you are out and about and you are having some trouble dealing with cravings, or just want to talk about what you just did, there is an app for iPhone and Android!

So far I've just made level 2 with one workout. I'm so sore, but I feel so proud. And when I posted about it, people actually responded. And it felt incredible. So much support just on the first day! I encourage anyone, whether you are a fitness buff or just a beginner, to click here and check it out! I'll be posting every now and then keeping track of my progress!

Living with Borderline Personality Disorder

Mental health problems affect around one in four people in any given year. They range from common problems, such as depression and anxiety, to rarer problems such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.    BPD is much more common than you might imagine. A recent study on the prevalence of mental health disorders in the U.S. found that about 1.6 percent of the population has BPD. ... In fact, about 75% of those diagnosed with BPD in the U.S. are women.    I've had Borderline Personality Disorder most of my life, and it definitely has been a struggle. I wanted to go over the main things about it and my personal experiences. I hope maybe this helps someone else that has it, or to help anyone understand it more in general. If you want to share this, please do. Trigger Warning : I will talk about some disturbing and personal things, but I feel it could be good for others and cathartic for myself as well. We have an intense fear of abandonment. So we frantic...

Smiley360 Review: Kikkoman Juicy Bird Project

So recently, I was chosen for Smiley360's " Kikkoman Juicy Bird Project ". In this we were to brine a chicken or turkey using Kikkoman Soy Sauce. Although I received these items to review for free, this is entirely my own opinion. I also apologize ahead of time for my usually horrible pictures as my cell phone has trouble in low light. I think it's time to start using a proper camera! "Experience the taste of umami in your meals with Kikkoman Soy Sauce . Try cooking with this dynamic sauce in traditional Asian dishes, mainstream American foods, classic Mediterranean dishes, Caribbean cuisine, or even to brine poultry." I've never brined poultry before, so I was excited to participate. I received not only 2 coupons for a free bottle of Kikkoman Soy Sauce, but a 5 gallon brining bucket as well. First, here's the recipe that was recommended: Kikkoman Chicken Brine Recipe Ingredients 2 cups Kikkoman Soy Sauce 2 Gallons water 1...

Drug Trials’ Encouraging Results for Borderline Personality Disorder

I wanted to link to a fantastic article over at the Personality Disorders Awareness Network about drug trials that were conducted that show two medications that might be beneficial to those of us with BPD. Unfortunately due to the nature of BPD, there is no medication that can take the place of therapy, especially Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. But medication is a great supplement to help manage our moods like irritability, depression and aggression. This article goes over Zyprexa (Olanzapine) and Seroquel (Quetiapine). http://www.pdan.org/drug-trials-encouraging-results-for-bpd/ Have any of you been on either of these medications? How did it affect you? On a side note, I apologize for the lengthy time between posts and for this sorter post today. Sometimes it is difficult for me to talk about my own dealings with BPD. Next post I hope to cover Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, how it is beneficial, and my own experiences, so keep an eye out in the coming days for that!
